One of the most traditional and festive states of Mexico, Veracruz is Mexico's largest port and situated on the eastern coast of Mexico.

The "son" or rhythm that describes music from the region is a blend of Spanish, African, and Caribbean rhythms dating back to the 18th Century. The footwork reflects diverse steps or "zapateados" with flamenco characteristics.

The clothing says a lot about the region's climate: women wear fresh garments in white, carry a fan in hand, and adorn their raised hair with large flowers; men wear a "guayabera," white cotton pants, and a decorative hat made of straw.
